As Peppermint Creek Theatre Company (PCTC) concludes its final week of making area resident’s lives EXTRAordinary, three lucky random winners will walk away with a gift sure to brighten anyone’s day!

Members of the cast of ‘Ordinary Days’ recently sat down to create three Top 10 lists of things to do in the Lansing area. In the production, the characters visit some of the top attractions in New York City, and Artistic Director Chad Badgero wanted to translate that exploration vibe to residents in the area.

“The cast makes some astounding discoveries about themselves and their city in the show just by venturing out into the town,” said Badgero. “We want to not only encourage residents to visit some of the amazing places that Lansing has to offer, but to have a reason to do so.”

On Wednesday, January 26, 2011, PCTC will be holding a contest on Twitter for three drawings centered around the cast’s Top 10 lists of things to do in the Lansing area. All participants need to do is tweet saying that they will be attending the show to @PeppermintCreek. Winners will be drawn at random and announced at noon on Twitter. From there, the lucky winners will be able to claim their prizes when they attend any ‘Ordinary Days’ showing.

‘Ordinary Days’ will be shown January 27 - 30 and February 3 - 5, 2011 at the Creole Gallery in Old Town Lansing. Thursday through Saturday shows are at 8 p.m. and Sunday shows are at 2 p.m. For more information, visit www.peppermintcreek.org or call 517-927-3016.

Want to know where to visit today to make your day a little more special?

Well, if you're in East Lansing, you should probably unwind with a cup of tea at Wanderer's Tea House on Grand River. But if you don't have the time, I'd zip through the drive through at Starbucks.

If you're in downtown Lansing, I'd visit Great Lakes Chocolate & Co. to warm up!

Lastly, if you're in Okemos, swing by the Biggby off of Marsh Rd. and grab a cup of Joe.

Who knows... you may just walk out with more than a cup of cheer. Such as a free ticket to our next production...

Why do we do this? Well because giving to you, gives back to us! We would love to see you at our next show but more than that, we want to just make your day a little better. In the process, we've met some great people who gave us a free cookie and cup of coffee while out and about doing extraordinary things today! Giving feels good, trust us.

Happy Wednesday :)

Who says that giving gifts is only for special occasions? Peppermint Creek Theatre Company (PCTC) sure doesn’t!

During the month of January, PCTC will be choosing three to four various locations throughout the tri-county area to brighten your day. Every Wednesday in January, look for PCTC do-gooders who will be handing out simple gifts, including free tickets to PCTC’s next show, in order to make your ordinary day EXTRAordinary!

‘Ordinary Days’, is an original musical with a contemporary sound about making connections in the city that never sleeps; a story of four young New Yorkers whose lives intersect as they search for fulfillment, happiness, and love. Peppermint Creek is proud to bring this (second!) musical of the season to life in its Michigan premier January 27 - 30 and February 3 - 5, 2011.

Stay tuned to our blog each week for more information about where and when you can run into PCTC’s EXTRAordinary helpers, or call 517-927-3016.

"Name the asshole who first invented mirrors.

I'm not actually posing that question, as I could quickly find out on my own by using my handy Google button or whipping over to Wikipedia, but I haven't bottomed out that far as a writer (or a human being) quite yet. I still like to look things up for myself occasionally, even cracking open an old leather-bound edition of encyclopedias from time to time to get a piece of information. I know somebody invented mirrors- they exist, after all; no doubt someone's ancestors are taking credit for the discovery- but I'm asking in a more general way, a sort of "Why did they bother?" Do we really need to see ourselves that clearly? Or at all? We see others for who they are- physically, at least- and yet we never actually see ourselves outright, always catching a glance in a window's reflection or in the glimmer off a lake's placid surface. But we want more. We want to know what we really look like, what people really think of us; if we're pretty enough, good enough, the best. We are creatures of desire- we want all the time. It's endless, how much we crave things- compliments and cars and lotto tickets (because if we win we'll have a lot of money, and then we can get more stuff)- and so we work and spend time away from our loved ones, always telling ourselves that this is the way of the world and everybody does it and my kids want it, and so life slips away. You attend your school of choice (if you're lucky), and you get the job of your choice (if you're lucky), and you slave away at it until it's time to retire and somebody else takes your desk two days after you leave, and you go to Florida a few times, and then you're done. Gone. What will you leave behind, dear reader? Something, I hope."
